The Uppony wine cellar row, a hidden treasure of the Bükk subregion, is not merely built heritage but a cornerstone of local identity. In our competition entry, we outlined a sustainable vision that combines the preservation of traditions with modern landscape architecture solutions. The central element of the concept is "reading between the lines": we invite visitors on a journey of discovery where the cellars, the vineyards, and the forest belts all tell a story of the settlement's past and future.

During the design process, we focused on the intersection of community life and tourism. The interactive reception area integrated into the National Blue Trail (Országos Kéktúra) route, the mysterious display niches created on the sites of collapsed cellars, and the fruit forest responsive to climate change all serve a single goal: to create a unique yet livable "treasure island" by involving local farmers. By preserving the genius loci (spirit of the place), our proposal establishes a stable vision for the future that avoids mass tourism and instead builds on the joy of discovery, making Uppony a truly special destination on a national level.
